3-D Secure is an internationally recognized security standard for online credit card payments. With American Express the 3-D Secure technology is called 'American Express SafeKey®'. With online purchases from SafeKey partners (identifiable by the SafeKey logo on the website) you are automatically requested to enter a TAN. This cardholder identification therefore provides additional security.
Most of the time, you don't need to do anything - SafeKey will work in the background as you make your purchase. We may send you a verification code by text and/or email. Just tap it in, and you're good to go. Simply check that your contact details are up to date. American Express International Currency Cards are serviced in English. Please note, ICC cards are not offered to residents of the USA, Singapore, the European Union (UK exempt) and some other excluded countries. SafeKey offers you additional security, which is only used with online merchants who have been verified by American Express: Whenever you make an online purchase with these merchants, you will be automatically taken through the registration process the first time you register. - The actual card
- A valid email address and/or
- Valid cell phone number
What Is Safekey
Once you are registered, you are sent a TAN to confirm this transaction. You receive this TAN as an SMS and/or email to the cell phone number or email address that you provided when you registered.
Please make sure that your email address and cell phone number are always up to date.
You can update your contact details when you check out your purchase with a participating SafeKey merchant in just a few simple steps. Your TAN is then sent to the new contact details in real time.
